Duck Life 5, also known as Duck Life: Treasure Hunt, is the fifth installment in the popular Duck Life series developed by Wix Games and MAD.com. Released in 2014, it diverges from the racing and training focus of the first four games, opting instead for endless runner-style gameplay.
The story picks up after the events of Duck Life 4. After defeating the Fire Duck, the volcano becomes dormant, and life returns to normal in the town. However, the eruption reveals an ancient cave filled with treasures, attracting adventurers from around the world. You play as one of these adventurous ducks, exploring the cave to collect coins, artifacts, and legendary items while avoiding obstacles and enemies.
The objective is to run as far as possible in the cave, gather riches, upgrade your duck, and unlock achievements. Treasures include ancient diamonds, statues, bones, seeds, old carcasses, and the coveted adventurer’s crown.
How to play
Customization and Preparation
Before entering the cave, visit various shops to enhance your duck:
- Pet Shop: Buy and train pets (up to 30 levels) that provide special abilities during runs. There are 25 pets, some purchased with coins, others with gems.
- Mechanic: Purchase gadgets like Tiny Wing (improves flying), iDowsing (better treasure chances), Smart Shovel (more keys), Gold Purifier (valuable coins), Bubble Barrier (protection), and Dr. Duckhatton (coin magnet).
- Barbershop: Change your duck’s appearance, including eyes, hair, tattoos, and colors.
- Tailor: Buy hats and clothes for style.
- Jetpack Store: Get jetpacks to skip initial distances in the cave (e.g., Jetpack skips 2000 meters).
Spend coins earned from runs wisely to level up these features for better performance.
Entering the Cave
Head to the cave entrance from the town. You can optionally use a jetpack to start further ahead. The run begins automatically as an endless side-scrolling adventure.
Controls
- The duck runs automatically to the right.
- Mouse Click/Hold: Hold to fly upwards, release to descend. Use this to jump over gaps, avoid obstacles like spikes, lava, or rocks, and collect coins/treasures.
- Spacebar (or tap the “ready” icon on mobile): Activate your pet’s special ability (e.g., a boost or shield) when available.
- Collect coins scattered throughout, which sometimes form words like “WIX,” “MAD,” or “treasure hunt.”
- Hit enemy ducks to defeat them and earn points.
- Avoid hazards; colliding with them ends the run unless protected (e.g., by Bubble Barrier).
Power-Ups
During runs, collect power-ups that temporarily transform your duck and change controls:
- Fire Bird: Click repeatedly to flap and gain height (Flappy Bird-style).
- Golem: Click to jump high and glide; click again in air to slam down.
- Wind Rider: Faster speed; hold click in air to glide slowly.
- Kong King (Vine Viper on mobile): Click to attach a vine fist to the ceiling and swing upside down; click again to drop. Power-ups end if you hit a fatal obstacle.
