About Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong is one of the classic video games developed by Nintendo. Designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, this game laid the foundation for the platformer genre and introduced two iconic characters: Donkey Kong (a giant gorilla) and Mario (originally called Jumpman), the protagonist who would later become the symbol of Nintendo. In the game, you will control Mario to overcome obstacles, climb ladders, jump over wooden crates and avoid the dangers created by Donkey Kong to rescue Pauline.
How to play Donkey Kong
Controls
- Move, climb ladders: Arrow keys
- Jump: Space key
Obstacles
- Craters: Donkey Kong throws crates that roll down floors or along slopes. Mario must jump over or avoid them.
- Fire: Flames move freely on floors
- Wheels: Appear in the “Cement Factory” level, move on conveyor belts and can kill Mario if they collide.
Power-Up items
- Mario can pick up hammers to destroy barrels, fires, or other obstacles for a short period of time. While using the hammer, Mario cannot jump.
- Items like umbrellas, bags, or Pauline’s hat appear scattered around the level, helping you earn extra points.
Levels
Barrel Stage
- Mario starts at the bottom and must climb to the top, where Donkey Kong is holding Pauline.
- Donkey Kong throws barrels that roll down the slopes. Some barrels roll randomly, some follow a fixed path.
- You must jump over barrels, climb ladders, and avoid flames…
Cement Factory
- Mario moves across conveyor belts and ladders to reach the top.
- Obstacles include cement wheels moving on conveyor belts and flames.
- There are elevators that move up and down, requiring you to jump at the right time.
Elevator Stage
- Mario must jump over elevators that move up and down and avoid springs that fall from above.
- The difficulty lies in timing your jumps correctly so you don’t fall or get crushed by the springs.
Rivet Stage
- The goal is to remove 8 rivets on the platforms to cause the structure to collapse, causing Donkey Kong to fall.
- Mario must move across platforms, jump over fires and avoid other hazards.
