About Battle City
Battle City (known as Tank Battle in Japan) is a classic 1985 arcade video game developed and published by Namco for the Nintendo Famicom (NES). It’s an action-strategy shooter where you control a tank to defend your base from waves of enemy tanks. It became iconic for its simple yet addictive gameplay, selling over 3 million copies on the Famicom alone.
How to play Battle City
Controls
- Move: Arrow Keys

Map
- Brick walls: Destructible by your shots (1-2 hits)
- Steel walls: Indestructible, block all shots.
- Forest: Hides tanks from view but doesn’t block bullets.
- Water: Slows movement but doesn’t stop it.
- Base: Your eagle—lose it, and the game ends.
Enemies
20 per wave, varying in speed, armor, and behavior:
- Basic tanks: Slow and weak (destroyed in 1 hit).
- Armored tanks: Take multiple hits.
- Fast tanks: Quick but fragile.
- Boss-like flag tanks: Appear in later stages; require focused fire.
