About Blob Opera
Blob Opera is a unique experimental music game developed by David Li in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture. The game uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to recreate realistic operatic vocals, allowing you to create operatic melodies without any in-depth musical knowledge. With four colorful “Blob” characters, each representing an operatic voice type (soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, bass), you can control them to create unique and interesting music.
How to play
Interface
The main interface of the game displays four colorful Blobs, each representing an operatic voice:
- Soprano: Olivia Doutney.
- Mezzo-soprano: Joanna Gamble.
- Tenor: Christian Joel.
- Bass: Frederick Tong.
Function Buttons
- Record Button: Left corner of the screen, allows recording the performance.
- Festival Theme: Button in the lower right corner to add special seasonal effects (Christmas, Halloween).
Controls
- Pitch Shift: Drag a Blob up (higher note) or down (lower note) vertically. This changes the pitch of the vocals, from sharp to warm.
- Adjust Vowels: Drag a Blob left or right horizontally to change the timbre (vowels like “a”, “e”, “i”, “o”, “u”).
- Mute a Blob: Click or tap a Blob to pause its vocals, allowing you to focus on other Blobs or create a break effect. Click again to unmute.
- Auto-harmonize: Blob Opera’s AI automatically adjusts vocals so they blend naturally, even if you have no knowledge of harmony.
